An Idea is Born…
So I’ve decided to start a new software project – an open/free time-tracking app based on the popular pomodoro technique, adapted to the way I do it. I want to use BeeWare, a python-based toolset / framework for application development is showing some really impressive capabilities.
What do I hope to achieve? Well, firstly, I want a time-keeping app that does things my way. I’ve used a lot of great tasking and time-keeping software over the years, but there’s always something I’d like to do a bit differently. More on this in later posts, if this goes anywhere…
I’d also like to support the BeeWare project itself. The vision for a python-first, run-anywhere native development framework is breathtakingly ambitious, but they’re really doing it! It’s very cool, and I think it would be great if this app could serve as an(other) example of a real-world useful thing that can be done with BeeWare, that is still accessible to BeeWare / python beginners like me. What I have in mind is really simple and low-key, so hopefully the ‘barrier to entry’ will be low enough, for people wanting to read through it and see how it works, and also for me to getting something useful done in a reasonable time.
The working name I have is “FocusTime”, and it’s to challenge myself, hopefully contribute in a small way to the Free Software community, and perhaps produce something useful.
